What is there is say about the Duchess of Islay? This was me in 5th grade. The rest of my school pictures look much like this one. I was a bit of a nerd. Math was my favorite subject and I went on to become an accountant.
Most people assume I am in the alcohol industry or a brand ambassador, but sadly I am a very boring human that likes to nerd out on facts and history.
After several bad run-ins with gin, I began this whisky journey with my favorite human, partner in crime (since 2001), and photography neophyte a handful of years ago.

What I didn’t realize was the old-fashioned stigma surrounding women and whisky. At one point my husband ordered an Ardbeg 10 for me at a local bar. The bartender launched into a lengthy discussion on how most women don’t like the smell of Ardbeg so he might want to order something else. The bartender was shocked when I sat down and grabbed the whisky glass and started drinking.
I set about to learn as much as I could with the idea of breaking down some of these barriers.

It began with just pictures of whisky, but my goal was to show the whisky community that women were whisky drinkers too.
As soon as I started posting The Duchess of Islay with her whisky, I would receive comments and messages with demeaning undertones. Some assumed I was just a man using my wife as a model. Some talked to me as if I would never ‘know’ whisky because I hadn’t rolled around in barley and taken a bath in a worm tub.
I began researching distilleries, history, production, and all things whisky in order to boost my content and gain recognition as someone that actually was worthy of being The Duchess of Islay.
My goal is to keep bringing interesting, entertaining content to the whisky community.
